Photography Tips
1. Shoot something everyday - practice works. Experiment.
You will learn to see beauty in the mundane..... keeping in mind " beauty is in the eye ......."
2. Your phone will do perfectly fine.......
3. Light is key......
If you have a dslr camera ......... Knowing the basics about Aperture, Shutter speed and ISO will give you complete control of all lighting situations.
“It is the photographer, not the camera, that is the instrument.” Ansel Adams
Here are the very basics for dslr camera
Aperture (A) : f numbers like f/11. So when you need more light in your shot move the A down e.g. from f/16 to f/5.6. This will open the lens more and allow more light in.
Shutter speed (SS) : Fast speed needed for anything that is moving. This will freeze the subject. Too slow a SS will result in blurry shots. 1/100sec is good for most shots.
ISO: High ISO will give you lots more light. Don't use unless necessary.
Lens: A 50mm lens is good for portraits - and close up shots.
A zoom lens allows you to zoom in on distant objects - so you can frame the shot e.g. 24 - 120mm
A good photo has a good composition. Composition is completely up to the photographer.
This shot has a definite subject matter and all attention leads there. See the lead in lines in the sand. The placement of the subjects follow the "rule of thirds" .
The sun balances the main subject in this story. A cloudy sky would be a distraction. Lots of colours would also distract. Simple use of just one main colour.
